VxRail Path Check
Whether your VxRail clusters have a supported route to VCF 9.1. Four topologies do not, and on 14G the Cascade Lake answer decides everything.
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
This cluster
The single answer that decides most of this.
On 14G the Cascade Lake and Skylake answer is the whole question.
If this cluster has a path, Upgrade Sequencer gives you the order. If it does not, Upgrade Runway tells you how long you have before the decision gets made for you.
Where these answers come from
- The four excluded topologies. Broadcom lists Stretch Cluster, Dynamic Node, two-node and Satellite Node as having no supported upgrade path in this release. They wait for something after VCF 9.1, and no date has been given.
- The two version floors. The in-place upgrade requires VMware software at 5.2.2 or later and VxRail at 8.0.361 or later. Below either line you have a two-stage project, and the first stage is the one people leave out of the plan.
- The hardware line. On 14G only Cascade Lake is in scope. First-generation Intel Xeon Scalable, which is Skylake, is out of scope for vSphere and VxRail 9.x entirely. Not deprecated, out of scope. 17G is greenfield only and standard vSAN ESA clusters only.
- What it is not. This screens for the blockers that are documented. It does not replace the VxRail support matrix for your exact model and build, and version numbers move.
Checked 7 November 2026
Checked against what Dell has published for VxRail on VCF 9.1 as at 7 November 2026. Dell revises the support matrix on its own cadence, independently of Broadcom, so confirm against the current matrix before committing to a date.
Where this comes from
- The write-up behind these rules, "VxRail is not a dead end any more. Four topologies still are.", publishes on 12 November with its own sources.
- Dell VxRail support matrix and release notes for VCF 9.1, for the version floors, the excluded topologies and the node generation cut-off.
What this tool cannot know
- Your actual node model. It reasons from generation, which is a proxy. Two nodes of the same generation can differ in what they will carry.
- Whether Dell will make an exception for your estate. Support matrices are published positions, not the final word in an escalation.
- Your switch firmware, which is a separate gate from the switch model.
- Anything Dell has announced but not yet published a matrix for.
