Useful even if you never sit the exam. - Author: Mohammad Siddiqui - Tags: security, architecture, Newsletter Broadcom announced the AI Resilient Infrastructure Expert track at Explore, sitting inside the Upskill stage of the Frontier AI Security Readiness Program. It's marked coming soon with no date attached, so this isn't something to plan a training budget around yet. It's still worth reading now, for a reason that has nothing to do with sitting the exam. The curriculum is specific enough to function as a statement of what Broadcom considers a properly hardened VCF estate. That's a useful document whether or not you ever get certified. ## Three paths The track splits by role, and the hour counts tell you how seriously each is meant. ### Sales Professionals 4 hours AI-resilient fluency, positioning VCF as a security stack, and CISO communication strategies. Four hours is an orientation, not a technical qualification, and it's honest about that. ### Solution Engineers around 10 hours This is the one with the interesting content list: DFW internals, VM-identity, Avi WAF, Live Recovery, and VulnOps for machine-speed defence. Distributed firewall internals and VM-identity together is a specific combination. VM-identity based rules mean firewall policy follows the workload rather than its IP address, which is what makes micro-segmentation survive vMotion and re-IP. If you've ever inherited a rule set full of IP literals, you know why that matters. VulnOps as a named discipline is newer. Treating vulnerability response as an operational practice with its own tooling and cadence, rather than a periodic project, is the same shift the patching content has been arguing for all year. ### VCDX Candidates 40 hours Advanced labs leading to VCAP and VCDX certification, focused on Zero Trust enforcement and autonomous threat response. Forty hours of advanced labs is a serious commitment and it's aimed at the right level. Zero Trust enforcement is a design problem before it's a configuration problem, which is exactly what a VCDX defence tests. ## The four stated outcomes This is the part I'd copy into a design checklist regardless of certification plans. On completion, teams should be able to: • Architect Zero Trust designs aligned with NIST, CIS and MITRE frameworks. Three named frameworks rather than a generic claim, which means the designs are checkable against published control sets. • Enforce workload defence using vDefend micro-segmentation, IDS/IPS and Avi WAF. Note the layering segmentation at the network, inspection in the path, and application-layer protection at the edge. Three different controls at three different depths. • Use Salt to automate continuous compliance monitoring and drift remediation. Salt appearing here is worth noticing. Drift remediation as an automated capability rather than a periodic audit is the difference between compliance as a state and compliance as an event. • Operationalise ransomware resilience and execute accelerated recovery. Read those four together and they describe a defensible target state. If your estate can't do all four today, the gaps are your backlog, and you didn't need a certification to work that out. ## The rest of the certification news Separately from ARIE, Broadcom announced new VCAP and VCDX certifications at Explore, and new role-based VCAP-VCF Administrator credentials. Five VCAP-VCF tracks are currently available: VKS, Automation, Operations, Networking and Storage. For anyone building a team development plan, the five-track structure is more useful than it first appears. It lets you map certification to actual role specialisation rather than pushing everyone down the same path. A storage-focused engineer and a networking-focused engineer no longer need the same credential to demonstrate depth. ## The VCF 9.1 curriculum available now While ARIE is pending, the 9.1 material is live and free to browse. On-demand digital learning covers upgrade pathways with technical simulations for Express Patches, Back-in-Time workflows, VCF Inspector and the interactive Upgrade Planner, plus Build/Manage/Secure, Automate and Operate, and Advanced Troubleshooting. The upgrade pathways module is the one I'd start with if you have 5.2.x estates ahead of you. Technical simulations of Express Patches and Back-in-Time workflows are exactly the things people get wrong the first time, and getting them wrong in a simulation costs nothing. Instructor-led equivalents exist for What's New in 9.1, Build/Manage/Secure, Automation and Operations, and Troubleshooting. ## Worth doing now • Check your VCF Learning Entitlements. If your organisation has them, the 9.1 curriculum is likely already paid for and unused. • Use the four ARIE outcomes as a capability checklist for your team, not a training plan. It tells you what to be able to do; whether a certificate proves it is a separate question. • If you have people on a VCDX path, the 40-hour track is worth watching for. Zero Trust and autonomous threat response are areas where design defence material has been thin. • Don't budget for ARIE yet.
